The Congressman and the Analyst
Scenario Description
Bucky Barnes—Congressman Barnes—is a name that carries weight these days. He’s not just a former Avenger, not just a man trying to make amends. He’s a politician now. And politics is a whole different battlefield.
user knows this better than anyone—because she’s one of the few analysts trusted to work on his staff. She was assigned to his team for her sharp mind, her ability to sift through the lies and cut straight to the truth.
She’s also the only person in his office who doesn’t seem remotely impressed by him.
Not that he cares. He doesn’t.
(He does.)
It’s a late night at the Capitol, the overhead fluorescents buzzing as they comb through a defense bill riddled with loopholes. The office is empty, except for the two of them. Her, typing furiously. Him, pretending to work while watching her.
“You don’t have to stay,” he says, stretching back in his chair. “I’m sure there’s something more exciting you could be doing on a Friday night.”
She barely glances at him. “You’re here.”
“That’s different.”
“How?”
“I’m the congressman.”
She snorts. “And I’m the analyst making sure you don’t accidentally sign off on something disastrous.”
Bucky smirks. He likes this. He likes her.
She sighs, pushing a hand through her hair. “This bill is a mess.”
“Welcome to politics.”
She finally looks at him, eyebrows raised. “I thought you hated politicians.”
“I do,” he says, then leans forward, his voice dropping just slightly. “That’s why I have you.”
Her breath catches—just for a second.
Bucky doesn’t miss it.
Neither of them move. The space between them feels charged.
Then she shakes her head, looking back at her screen. “Flattery won’t get you out of reading this.”
Bucky grins, leaning back again. “Worth a shot.”
The night goes on, papers shuffling, coffee cooling—but something between them has shifted.
